DRAPER, Utah, May 29, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Draper woman is facing felony charges after she allegedly entered her ex-boyfriend’s home unlawfully and stabbed him, then threatened him with a gun.
A probable cause statement from Utah County said Yang Zhang, 37, is facing charges of aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony; aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; felony discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony; reckless endangerment, a class A misdemeanor; and no valid license — expired, an infraction.
“Officers were dispatched to a delayed assault that had taken place in the morning of May 23,” the probable cause statement said. “Officers arrived on scene and met with the victim who advised that he had been in an altercation with Yang Zhang. Yang had entered the home unlawfully and committed an aggravated assault.”
There was physical evidence supporting the assault, the probable cause statement said.
“The victim had been stabbed with a knife during the altercation,” the statement said. “A gun was produced and the victim was threatened with it. During a separate altercation, the firearm was discharged into the floor of the residence.”
Zhang later returned to the residence and admitted to driving, even though her license was expired.
“The charges have been enhanced because of the consensual sexual relationship of Yang and the victim,” the statement said.
Zhang has no prior convictions, is not on probation and has no pending cases.
She has admitted to trying to harm herself in the past, the statement said.
Zhang was transported to the Utah County Jail, where she is being held without bail. She has citizenship in Canada and may flee the country if released from jail, the statement said.
