WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Sept. 23, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A woman was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in West Valley City early Monday morning.
West Valley City Police Department spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku told Gephardt Daily officers responded to an apartment complex in the area of 3524 W. Parkway Blvd. at approximately 6:35 a.m. after a woman was heard screaming in the parking lot.
On arrival officers found the woman, still in the parking lot, with a stab wound to the lower back, Vainuku said. The responding officials administered first aid until the fire brigade arrived to assist the woman. She was taken to an area hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, and is currently in surgery.
Vainuku said officials received reports the man thought to be involved in the incident was still on scene; he was found sitting on the steps to the apartment complex. The man, Rico Rodriguez, 49, is facing charges of domestic violence aggravated assault and possession of a weapon by a restricted person. It’s believed the man and woman were in a relationship of some sort; the sequence of events leading up to the stabbing are not yet clear.
Another person who may be involved in the incident left the scene, Vainuku said. It’s not clear exactly what that person’s involvement was.
A search warrant was executed on the apartment where the stabbing took place and the knife believed to be involved in the incident was recovered.
The victim has not been identified by officials.
