CACHE COUNTY, Utah, Nov. 11, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 36-year-old man died after the off-highway vehicle he was driving plunged from a 30-foot embankment in Cache County. A 6-year-old in the same vehicle escaped injury.
Utah State Parks Lt. Eric Stucki told Gephardt Daily details of the incident are still emerging, but the incident occurred early Sunday evening between Logan Canyon and Blacksmith Fork Canyon, on the backside of the Logan Peak mountain range.
The man and his 6-year-old son were in the same OHV, riding with a group, though it’s not clear at this time whether the group was family or friends, Stucki said.
The man went ahead of the group in the OHV and turned a corner, then went off a 30-foot embankment. The man was wearing a helmet, but sustained head injuries and passed away.
It’s not known at this stage if the child was wearing a helmet. Stucki said it’s possible the child managed to jump from the OHV. There were no witnesses to the crash because the man and the child were ahead of the rest of the group.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Stucki said speed may have been a factor, but that has not been confirmed.
The man’s identity has not been released pending notification of family members.
Cache County Sheriff’s deputies and Search and Rescue assisted Utah Parks and Recreation officials at the scene.
