WEST JORDAN, Utah, Jan. 24, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A West Jordan man has been arrested after an alleged aggravated assault in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County said Tyler Steven Sommer, 35, is facing charges of:

  • Aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony
  • Assault, a class B misdemeanor
  • Criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor

“The following information I gathered on scene speaking with witnesses and the victim,” the arresting officer wrote in the statement. “Tyler Sommer committed aggravated assault when he while in a verbal argument with the victim attempted to hit the victim several times with a closed fist before kicking the victim on the knee which knocked the victim to the ground.”

Once the victim was on the ground Sommer allegedly “stomped on the victim’s heel and foot which caused three bones in the victim’s foot to break.” the statement said. “The victim was unable to walk or stand after the incident and had to be taken to the emergency room.”

Sommer and the victim are known to each other, the statement said. The altercation was caused by the victim wanting to leave the residence they were in, the statement added.

The suspect was transported to Salt Lake County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
