SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 19, 2024 (Gephardt Daily)  — Police say a fight over a watch led to a shooting in Salt Lake City’s Glendale neighborhood Thursday night.

According to the SLCPD PR Unit, officers were called to 700 West North Temple Street about 11:52 p.m. When police and other first responders arrived, they found a 19-year-old male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The alleged shooting suspect, said to be the victim’s 17-year-old roommate, had fled the scene.

Paramedics took the 19-year-old to the hospital, with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

“Officers found the suspect nearby and took him into custody after a short foot chase,” the SLCPD statement said.

The 17-year-old was booked into the Salt Lake County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault, felony discharge of a firearm resulting in serious bodily injury, minor with possession of a firearm, and failing to stop at the command of law enforcement.

The suspect’s name is being withheld due to his juvenile status.
