PROVO CANYON, Utah, Oct. 19, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A Heber City woman was arrested after she allegedly stole a pickup from four people at Bridal Veil Falls early Saturday morning.
Utah County Sheriff‘s deputies responded to a dispatch call just after 2 a.m.
“The caller told 911 dispatchers this woman approached the pickup, pointed a gun at the occupants in the cab and in the bed of the pickup, and told them to get out,” a UCSO statement says. “They got out, ran to some nearby bushes, and called 911.
“The woman, Heather Leann Murray, 35, from Heber City, then got in the pickup and started honking the horn,” the statement says. “When deputies arrived, they ordered Murray to get out of the pickup, but she refused.
“When other deputies arrived, Murray turned the truck around facing the deputies. Believing she had a firearm, deputies moved away from their vehicles. Murray then drove about 100 yards east of the Bridal Veil Falls parking area and stopped at the side of the road.”
Deputies ordered Murray to show her hands and get out of the pickup, “but she still refused. Murray then drove the truck into and across the Provo River toward the south, where it got stuck. She got out of the truck and ran to the south, toward the Provo River Parkway Trail.”
At the deputies’ request, dispatch called back the 911 caller and had them come out and walk toward the pickup, to make sure they were safe and uninjured.
“About a dozen officers, troopers, and more deputies, from Orem, Provo, and Lehi police departments and Utah Highway Patrol, responded to assist in looking for Murray,” the release says.
“As one deputy arrived he saw Murray above the old highway, along US Highway 189, where another car was parked. When he ordered her to stop, Murray refused and ran back down the hill to the old highway by Bridal Veil Falls.
“A short time later, Murray was confronted near where she originally threatened the occupants of the pickup. She finally complied and was taken into custody.”
Deputies found a realistic-looking BB gun in the stolen pickup. The car further up along Highway 189 was rented by Murray, the statement says. Deputies found cocaine and drug paraphernalia in the rental car.
Murray was booked for investigation of:
- Aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony
- Theft of a motor vehicle, a second-degree felony
- Property damage greater than $5,000, a second-degree felony
- Four counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony
- Possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, a third-degree felony
- Failure to stop at command of law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor
- Possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor
- DUI-metabolite, a class B misdemeanor
- Possession of drug paraphernalia, class B misdemeanor
A judge has ordered that Murray be held without bail.
