VEYO, Utah, Sept 3, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the death on Monday of a 3-year-old boy who was left in a hot car outside an apartment building in Veyo.
A call came to dispatch at about 6:11 p.m., a WCSO news release confirmed. The caller was screaming.
“Initially, they were unable to gather information about what was happening and dispatched officers as a 911 hang-up call. Eventually, the dispatchers were able to understand enough to determine that a child was injured and dispatched medical crews as well.”
Medical crews arrived and found the toddler boy unresponsive.
“The child was declared deceased on scene by emergency medical crews in conjunction with an on-call doctor, as per protocols,” the WCSO statement says.
“The initial investigation by detectives revealed that the child was left unattended in the vehicle after a shopping trip with his family.”
According to online records, the high temperature Monday in Veyo was 103 degrees.
Washington County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating, and working closely with the Washington County Attorney’s Office, the statement says. The victim was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
