SPANISH FORK, Utah, Jan. 4, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — A Spanish Fork man is facing multiple felony charges, many with domestic violence enhancements, after he allegedly attacked a woman Saturday, and fired on SWAT team members and an armored vehicle.

Allan Searl, 58, has been booked into the Utah County jail for investigation of the alleged crimes of:

  • Aggravated murder (attempted), a first-degree felony
  • Two counts of aggravated assault, domestic violence enhancement, a second-degree felony
  • Aggravated kidnapping while committing unlawful act, domestic violence enhancement, a second-degree felony
  • Assault on a peace officer in uniform, a second-degree felony
  • Felony discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony
  • Two counts of property damage/destruction, loss of $1,500 to $4,999, domestic violence enhancement, a third-degree felony
  • Carrying dangerous weapon while under the influence, a class B misdemeanor

On Saturday, Spanish Fork police were alerted to an alleged domestic violence incident the previous night, involving a verbal argument. The woman stated that she was returning to the house after spending the night at the house of a male relative, who agreed to accompany her to her residence to retrieve some personal property.

When the woman returned to her house with her relative, she made contact with Searl, his arrest document says.

The suspect retrieved a knife, and the verbal altercation continued. At one point the suspect pushed the woman to the ground and put his arm around her neck, strangling her. She told Searl she could not breath, and he allegedly replied, “I don’t care.”

The victim’s friend saw her attempting to crawl out the front door, but Searl was dragging her back into the residence,” Searl’s arrest document says.

The friend ran into the residence and tackled the suspect and the woman ran to the neighbors to get help.

The “was able to get out of the house” and Searl was allegedly seen breaking out the window screens and throwing items out the window.

Police arrived on scene, and Searl pointed a gun at them “causing them to fear for their safety and request additional units.”

Officers awaiting reinforcements heard “indiscriminate shooting coming from inside the residence,” Searl’s arrest document says. “Further investigation revealed a bullet hole found in neighboring homes/property.”

The Utah County SWAT team arrived and tried to communicate with Searl who opened fire on SWAT team’s armored vehicle and the multiple officers inside.

A bullet struck the vehicle’s radiator and surrounding officers returned fire.

After the short burst of gunfire, SWAT gave orders to (Searl) and took him into custody.”

The court documents said the woman’s friend transported to the hospital and was determined to have “sustained substantial injury to the vertebrae in his neck,” Searl’s arrest document says.

Searl was booked into the Utah County jail, and ordered held without bail.
