FISHLAKE NATIONAL FOREST, Utah, June 29, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — The Cottonwood Fire, which has burned an estimated 93,918 acres in Fishlake National Forest, remains 0% contained, according to a Monday morning update shared by Utah Fire Info.
“Yesterday, rolling, burning debris caused fire to reignite in the bottom of North Creek, causing a large smoke column to develop,” the update says. “The fire, well within the constructed firelines, burned outstanding fuels before eventually buring into the main fire.
“Crews on Thompson Ridge improved the line along the southern flank of the fire toward South Creek. Firefighters on Black Ridge improved line heading toward Cork Ridge.
“Last night, shift crews improved the recently completed line from Silver King toward Maryvale and completed the lower dozer line. Firefighters worked to combat the active fire in Cottonwood Canyon.”
“Today, repel crews will be flown in to Baldwin Ridge and work on line construction to North Creek. Hazard tree removal will continue around Cottonwood Canyon.”
Helicopters will be used to work areas inaccessible to firefighters, and to support crews on the ground engaged in direct firefighting operations.
A fire and fuel advisory has been issued for the state of Utah due to low fuel moisteure and the potential for extreme fire behavior and rapid growth. Colder temperatures and higher humities moderated behavor in most parts of the fire. Drier southwest flow returns today to the area. Wind gusts will hot just under 20 mph this afternoon. Temperatures will be in the high 70s and humitiies will be 20 to 30%.
Increasing fire activity will be expected over the next few days.
