GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, July 23, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — A search continues in the Grand Canyon for a wayward 83-year-old hiker from Kanab.
National Park Service personnel and partner agencies are searching for the missing hiker on the North Rim of the park, the NPS said Wednesday afternoon.
“At approximately 5 p.m. on July 21, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report from an individual who said he had become separated from his hiking partner,” the agency said. The two were hiking in a remote area of the North Rim near the park’s northeast boundary along Forest Service Road 610 (Dog Saddle).
The missing hiker has been identified as Gerald Guinn, 83, of Kanab, Utah.
Guinn was last seen about 12:40 p.m. Tuesday wearing a tan, long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans and a ball cap.
He is described as 5-foot-10, 140 pounds, with hazel eyes and gray hair, balding.
Search efforts began July 21, Tuesday, and include personnel from Grand Canyon National Park, Coconino County Search and Rescue, and Kane County (Utah) Search and Rescue. Operations on July 22 are focused on ground searches as well as aerial searches using drones and helicopters, according to the NPS.
