BICKNELL, Utah, July 18, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Three males believed to be part of a family group were found deceased Friday evening after flooding in the Sunglow Campground area of Fishlake National Forest.
A call reporting a found body came to the Wayne County Sheriff‘s Office at about 5 p.m. Friday, the Sheriff’s statement says.
“Deputies arrived and discovered the body of a young man in a wash near Sunglow Campground,” near Bucknell, the statement says.
“Wayne County Search and Rescue was activated to search for any additional individuals for what is believed to be a missing family group in the area.”
Evidence indicates a family arrived at Sunglow Campground area at 11:30 a.m. on Friday to go hiking and canyoneering, the statement says.
“During the search, two additional males were found in the same wash. At this time, it is believed the family fell victim to flooding caused by heavy rains.”
The three bodies were transported to the Utah Medical Examiner’s Office for confirmation of identity.
“Names of deceased will NOT be released until family members are notified and positive identification,” the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says.
“The Search and Rescue operation is continuing to search for two additional individuals.”
