LOS ANGELES, Aug. 17 (UPI) — Adam West and Burt Ward are back as Batman and Robin in a new upcoming animated feature entitled, “Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders.”
Revealed by Entertainment Weekly alongside a self-aware announcement trailer, the animated film will recreate the look and feel of West and Ward’s campy 1960’s “Batman” television series.
“Guess this is our last meal Batman,” Ward as the Boy Wonder mentions as the Dynamic Duo is seen being sent into a fiery pit aboard a giant TV dinner.
“Then this is one time I would advocate starting with dessert,” Batman replies before revealing that dessert is actually the animated film itself.
After escaping, Batman then describes how the project will see them take on classic villains such The Joker, Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman voiced by a returning Julie Newmar in both Gotham City and in space.
“Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders” will be released on Digital HD on Oct. 11 and Blu-ray on Nov. 1.
The original “Batman” TV series ran for 120 episodes from 1966 to 1968 and also featured Burgess Meredith as the Penguin, Cesar Romero as the Joker and Yvonne Craig as Batgirl. Craig died nearly a year ago at the age of 78 after she lost her two-year battle against metastasized breast cancer that had spread to her liver.
“Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders” is the latest animated special featuring Batman from Warner Bros. following the recent high-profile release of “The Killing Joke,” starring longtim “Batman” voice actors Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, which was screened in theaters for one night only.
I’m a fan of Adam West.& Burt Ward.
