DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., March 16, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) Frank Sinatra Jr., son of American singing legend Frank Sinatra, has died at the age of 72.

Word of Sinatra Jr.’s, death came by way of a family statement Wednesday which said the singer died of heart attack while on tour in Daytona Beach.

The crooner was preparing to perform at Peabody Auditorium when he began feeling lightheaded. He was taken to Halifax Medical Center where he suffered a heart attack.

Sinatra, Jr. was thrust into the public spotlight in 1963 when, at the age of 19, he was the victim of a Reno, Nevada kidnapping plot.

Sinatra’s father paid $240,000 in ransom to secure his son’s release. He was later found unharmed in Bel Air, California.

At the time, there was widespread speculation the kidnapping was a hoax, although the FBI ultimately arrested the suspected kidnappers who ended up in prison.

The young Sinatra went on to pursue his own music career, often singing his father’s most famous works.

In a message posted on social media Wednesday, singer Tony Bennett said, “I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Frank Sinatra Jr. and send my sympathy to Tina and Nancy and the Sinatra family.”

Nancy Sinatra, Frank Jr.’s sister, had her own musical career, which included the recording of the 1960s pop hit, ‘These Boots Were Made For Walking.’

Francis Albert Sinatra died in 1998, also of a heart attack. He was 82.
