LAS VEGAS, Jan. 14 (UPI) — Singer-songwriter Céline Dion’s husband René Angélil died at his Las Vegas home Thursday morning after a long battle with throat cancer. He was 73.
Dion, 47, and Angelil have been married since 1994 and have three children. They have been living in Las Vegas so Dion could perform a multi-year residency at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace.
The famed entertainer confirmed the death of the Montreal-born musician — and her former manager — on her website.
“René Angélil, 73, passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer,” the message said. “The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment; more details will be provided at a later time.”
