NEW YORK, June 27 (UPI) — Earlier this year, Joni Mitchell was found unconscious in her apartment. She remains in recovery, and according to longtime friend and fellow folk singer, David Crosby, she has yet to be able to speak.

Crosby recently spoked to Huffington Post Live about his upcoming tour, during which he offered an update on her apparent condition. According to Crosby, Mitchell was found unconscious as a result of a brain aneurysm.

“I have not spoken to her. To my knowledge, she is not speaking yet,” Crosby said in the interview. “She is home, she is in care, she is in recovery. How that’s going to go, we don’t know yet.”

“She took a terrible hit. She had an aneurysm, and nobody found her for a while,” he continued. “And she’s going to have to struggle back from it the way you struggle back from a traumatic brain injury.”

Court documents filed in April, not long after Mitchell’s hospitalization, listed the singer and one-time model as “unconscious and unable to make any responses.” Rumors that she was in coma spread over the Internet, but an official statement squashed the notion not long after.

“Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma,” the statement read. “Joni is still in the hospital — but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected.”

Mitchell, along with Crosby, Neil Young and others, was a mainstay of the California folk rock scene in the 1960s and 70s.

“I love her. She was my old lady at one point,” Crosby said. “She’s probably the best of us — probably the greatest living singer-songwriter. … We’re all holding our breath and thinking a good thought, hoping that it’s going to turn out okay.”
