LOS ANGELES, April 11 (UPI) — J.K. Rowling‘s wizarding world comes to life in 1920’s New York in the latest teaser trailer for Warner Bros. upcoming “Harry Potter” spinoff, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”
The footage was revealed Sunday by star Eddie Redmayne during the MTV Movie Awards following a unique dance number inspired by the film.
Redmayne’s character, magizoologist Newt Scamander’s origin is explored in the teaser as he arrives in New York City after being expelled from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, an event his teacher and Harry Potter series regular Albus Dumbledore was against.
Narrated by Colin Farrell (Percival Graves), the clip features Scamander’s magical briefcase, which contains a collection of magical and dangerous creatures, being searched by authorities after arriving on Ellis Island after the wizard is able to set it to “Muggle Worthy” just in time.
A prequel to the “Harry Potter” series, “Fantastic Beasts” depicts the origins of Scamander’s text book which is read by Harry Potter 70 years later during his time at Hogwarts. Directed by David Yates who helmed the last four Harry Potter films, the spinoff also stars Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller and Ron Perlman.
Rowling confirmed on social media in March that the upcoming film would be the start of a new trilogy.
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” opens in theaters November 18.
