You Might Get Lucky On Friday The 13th

13th

There are always objects in our way before we get to Valentine’s Day. For some it’s finding the right gift for the person they love, for others it might be desperately looking for date. But this year, we all have something we have to face together before we can feel the love.

We have to get through Friday the 13th. The unluckiest of unlucky days, Friday the 13th, has carried a negative stigma since the 19th century. Triskadekaphobia, the clinical name for the fear of the number 13, has no basis whatsoever in science, and years ago, my brother Paul and myself, alongside our friend Robert Easton, decided to thumb our noses at fate by staging a production of William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth,” which is commonly believed among theatre people to carry a frightening curse, on Friday the 13th, and the play was a resounding success that went over very well with an audience that left us all feeling like we had laughed in the face of danger and emerged victorious, apart from me suffering a concussion when I was hit on the head with a steel sword and Robert rolled his car on the way home and had to have staples in his head. But as the old saying goes, you can’t make a hamburger without chopping up a cow.

So, in general, I may not be the best person to suggest a way to deal with this phenomenon, but this year, thankfully, someone has stepped in to give us a perfect way to observe such a special day.

Nightmare on 13th, one of the most popular Haunted Houses in Utah, will be open on February, Friday the 13th, a new tradition that began last year with a special opening on Friday, June 13th. Starting out in 1990 as The Institute of Terror Haunted House, Nightmare on 13th has been a huge success, and has been named one of America’s scariest attractions by The Travel Channel, and one of America’s best Haunted Houses by USA Today. Featuring professionally trained actors, cutting edge animatronics and audio and lighting effects, this is one nightmare that is worth losing some sleep over.

Since we all know that Haunted Houses are all about providing a place for girls to pretend they don’t want to go alone so they can get a guy to go with them and hold their hand and cuddle them when they pretend to be scared (and the guy is always dumb enough to think it was his idea), it just may be a perfect way to get in the mood for a romantic Valentine’s Day.
