ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., Sept. 14 (UPI) — Miss Alabama, Meg McGuffin called out Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump Sunday, during the Miss America pageant.
“I think Donald Trump is an entertainer,” McGuffin said during ABC’s live broadcast when asked by judge Taya Kyle why she thought Trump was leading in the polls.
“I think he says what’s on a lot of people’s minds, but I think that the Republican party should be absolutely terrified of all the attention that he is taking from incredible candidates like Jeb Bush and Chris Christie, who could absolutely do the job of president of the United States,” the 22-year-old Auburn University graduate continued. “And if I were a Republican, I would absolutely be terrified of that. Thank you.”
Betty Cantrell, Miss Georgia, was crowned Miss America 2016 while McGuffin placed in the top five.
The outspoken Trump, fresh off a recent feud with Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly and Univision longtime anchor Jorge Ramos, has yet to respond.
Earlier this year, NBCUniversal refused to air Trump’s Miss USA pageant on its NBC and Univision networks after the hotel tycoon made controversial statement about Mexican immigrants while announcing his presidential run.
On Monday, Trump sold his Miss Universe Organization, which includes the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA to the agency WME/IMG three days after he bought back the half of the organization owned by NBCUniversal.
