NBC Not Moving Forward With Bill Cosby Comedy
As expected, NBC is putting the brakes on Bill Cosby’s return to TV.
The network has decided not to move forward with plans for a Cosby-led family comedy. The move comes as the network, facing a large penalty, was under increasing pressure to drop the project amid the resurfacing of rape allegations against Cosby.NBC had no comment.
As part of the untitled comedy project from Sony Pictures Television, announced back in January, Cosby would have played the patriarch of a multi-generational family. The show would have put the comedian back on the network for the first time since The Cosby Show.
NBC picked up the pilot facing a significant penalty if it did not move forward. At the time of the axing, a script for the show had not yet been delivered and it was never greenlit into production.
Cosby, meanwhile, has stayed mum throughout the reheated controversy, only releasing statements via his lawyer.
