NEW YORK CITY, Jan. 20 (UPI) — Malia Obama appears to have landed an internship with Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.
The 18-year-old daughter of outgoing president Barack Obama will work for The Weinstein Co. before heading to Harvard University in the fall, according to Page Six.
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter Obama will begin her internship at the company’s New York office in February. She will reportedly work in the marketing or development department.
Obama previously worked as a production assistant on Halle Berry‘s CBS show, “Extant,” in Los Angeles. She later interned on the set of Lena Dunham‘s HBO series, “Girls,” in New York.
“Malia has expressed some interest in filmmaking,” the teenager’s mom, Michelle Obama, told People in 2012. “Just like her father, she is an avid reader, and she enjoys movies.”
The Weinstein Co. is behind such Oscar-winning films as “The King’s Speech,” “The Artist” and “Silver Linings Playbook.” Weinstein himself is a frequent donor to Democratic causes and candidates, including outgoing President Obama.
The Obamas will reportedly head to Palm Springs, Calif., for a vacation following Donald Trump‘s inauguration Friday. Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
