LOS ANGELES – November 3, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — Taylor Swift is being sued for $42 million over ‘Shake It Off’ by an R&B singer alleging Swift stole the lyrics for her 2014 hit song.

According to ‘The New York Daily News,’ Jesse Braham, whose stage name is Jesse Graham, said Swift plagiarized the lyrics from his 2013 song “Haters Gone Hate.” Her hook is the same hook as mine.”  “If I didn’t write the song ‘Haters Gone Hate,’ there wouldn’t be a song called ‘Shake It Off.’”

Graham’s song uses the lyrics: “Haters gone hate, playas gone play. Watch out for them fakers, they’ll fake you everyday.” The chorus to Swift’s “Shake it Off” opens with: “Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play. And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.”

Apart from the lyrics, the songs bear no musical similarities.

He said: “At first I was going to let it go, but this song is my song all the way.

‘Shake It Off’ – which was the lead single from her multi-million selling album ‘1989’ – was written by songwriters Max Martin and Shellback along with Taylor, who claims it’s about being scrutinized by the public.

Taylor Swift previously explained: “I’ve had every part of my life dissected – my choices, my actions, my words, my body, my style and my music. When you live your life under that kind of scrutiny, you can either let it break you or you can get really good at dodging punches. Then when one lands, you know how to deal with it. And I guess the way that I deal with it, is to shake it off.”

Graham, who, according to the Daily News, also runs an organization called ‘New Day Worldwide,’ said he also plans to sue CNN over the cable network’s show “New Day.”
