The Force is with Amy Schumer
HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA – July 20, 2015 — (Gephardt Daily) — It was reported a few “Star Wars” fans took offense to Amy Schumer’s recent pose with “Star Wars” characters R2D2 and C-3PO a few days ago. The fans wrote Lucasfilm, now a part of the Disney company, to explain why they’d let their beloved characters be used in such an explicit way.
There was no “garbled” message this time as an official tweet from the official Star Wars Twitter account read: “Lucasfilm & Disney did not approve, participate in or condone the inappropriate use of our characters in this manner.” The studio posted the message on Twitter in response to criticism of the shoot.
A studio spokesperson told ‘Variety,’ “It’s not surprising that GQ would want to capitalize on the cultural cachet of ‘Star Wars,’
It was also reported GQ did not consult with Disney or Lucasfilm on the content of the shoot, a studio rep says, but because the photos are parodying the iconic franchise, they’re covered under fair use.
What will Lucasfilm and Disney do?
Most likely nothing, as the shoot is considered satire, which is protected as “free speech.” The studios have no legal recourse against parody.
