ATLANTA, July 27 (UPI) — Montgomery, Ala., beat out Philadelphia, Baltimore, St. Louis and New Orleans as the most sexually diseased city in the U.S., according to an analysis of data from 2013.

Researchers at RentApplication.com analyzed data collected by the Centers for Disease Control as part of its annual Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance to create an interactive map showing prevalence of STDs in cities across the country.

“The data used here comes from the CDC for 2013, and reflects reports of syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia,” the researchers wrote in a blog post. “To normalize the data, we measured rates per 100,000 people. We chose only to show cities with a significant amount of population, so rural counties are not show on this map.”

The researchers used the data to create an interactive map that shows incidence of STDs in cities all over the country.

Montgomery has a population of just over 200,000; its 4,371 residents with sexually transmitted diseases give it an incidence of 1,899.20 per 100,000 people to top the list. St. Louis was second with an incidence of 1,867.54 per 100,000 and West Memphis, Ark., was third with 1,717.29 per 100,000.

Three cities with large military bases appear on the top ten: Norfolk, Va., Killeen, Texas., Fayetteville, N.C., home to Norfolk Naval Base, Fort Hood, and Fort Bragg. Philadelphia, Baltimore, Richmond, Va., and New Orleans round out the list.
