CEDAR CITY, Utah, May 24, 2026 — Police are investigating a fatal structure fire that heavily damaged two homes Saturday afternoon near North Main Street in Cedar City.

Emergency crews responded shortly after 12:30 p.m. to the area of 1027 N. Main St., where firefighters found a trailer home fully engulfed in flames, according to a statement from the Cedar City Police Department.

Officials said the fire spread to a neighboring residence, causing extensive damage. Several vehicles and nearby property were also damaged.

Investigators believe one person may have died in connection with the fire. Authorities said no identifying information will be released until the victim is positively identified and next of kin are notified.

Two law enforcement officers were taken to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation as a precaution and have since been released, police said.

Firefighters worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to additional structures.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Cedar City Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, Enoch City Police Department, Iron County Sheriff’s Office, Utah Highway Patrol and Southern Utah University Police Department. Rocky Mountain Power crews also responded to disconnect electricity to the affected homes safely.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Utah State Fire Marshal.
