OGDEN, UTAH – September 13, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A 21-year-old from Ogden was killed in a single-vehicle accident while fleeing from a convenience store beer theft Saturday night.
According to Ogden City Police, a customer witnessed two males enter the 7-Eleven at 803 24th Street in Ogden and take beer without paying.
The witness told police the suspects hit another vehicle as they were fleeing the store and left traveling northbound on Quincy Avenue from 24th Street. A few minutes later, a call came into dispatchers that the same pickup truck had been involved in an accident on Valley Drive.
Investigators discovered that the suspects had been traveling eastbound on Valley Drive at high speed and the driver was unable to negotiate the curve in the road and struck the guardrail, ejecting both of the occupants.
Daniel Hernandez of Ogden was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Police are not releasing the name of the driver at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
No charges have been filed at this time.
