MURRAY, Utah, Aug. 25, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — An estimated 50 families were forced from their apartments late Friday night after reports of a gas leak in Murray.

Murray Fire Battalion Chief Joseph Treadwell told Gephardt Daily firefighters were called to the Willowcreek Apartments at 475 Creekside Circle just after 10 p.m. When first crews arrived they detected potentially dangerous levels of natural gas throughout the apartment complex and made the decision to evacuate the residents.

Dominion Energy repair crews shut off gas to the complex while the Red Cross was called in to help house the displaced families.

Chief Treadwell said the leak appears to have been caused by a construction crew that was working at the apartment complex earlier in the day.

It was expected residents would be allowed back into their apartments after repairs were made Saturday morning.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
