LAYTON, Utah, Oct. 25, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — An 8-year-old boy was airlifted to an area hospital Thursday morning after he ran out into the street outside Lincoln Elementary School and was hit by a Hummer.
Layton Police officials said a relative of the child was driving him to school and she pulled over in the area of 1920 N. Alder St. (500 West), which is southeast of the school, just after 8:40 a.m. The boy exited the car and ran around the front, into the street. The boy was not in a crosswalk at the time of the accident.
The child was hit by a Hummer traveling northbound. Officials say speed was not a factor.
The child was airlifted to Davis Hospital and Medical Center in Layton, then to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City with serious leg injuries, though it was later found that his injuries were less serious than initially thought. He has a broken bone and some road rash, officials said.
The driver of the Hummer remained on scene and is cooperating with police.
