Arizona man dies of ‘apparent drowning’ at Lake Powell

LAKE POWELL, Aug. 12, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — An Arizona man is believed to have drowned at the Wahweap Swim Beach on Lake Powell over the weekend.

Albert Shortman, 33, of Cow Springs, Arizona, was reported missing at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. National Park Service rangers at Glen Canyon National Recreation area, near Page, Arizona, were notified.

Shortman was last heard from at about 8 a.m. Saturday, according to a National Park Service news release.

Utah State Parks, NPS Rangers, and the Glen Canyon Dive Team searched the land and water in the Swim Beach area. Shortman’s body was found near the Swim Beach on Lake Powell, “deceased from an apparent drowning,” the news release said.

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, Kane County Sheriff’s Office, and the Coconino County Medical Examiner also responded.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death.
