SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, AUG. 17, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The armed robbery of a Salt Lake City 7-Eleven led to a high-speed chase and fiery crash on Legacy Highway early Friday morning, with the juvenile suspect being saved by police who had to free him from his burning vehicle.

SLCPD Lt. Scott Pelley told Gephardt Daily that dispatchers received a call of an armed robbery at 500 N. Redwood Rd. about 3:45 a.m. Within a matter of minutes, a nearby patrol officer spotted the suspect’s vehicle and the chase was on.

After reaching speeds of 90 mph, the suspect vehicle crashed, high-centering on a large boulder near 500 S. Legacy Highway before catching fire.

Pursuing officers sprang into action, freeing the stunned and injured suspect who was trapped inside the burning vehicle.

Pelley said the juvenile suspect suffered minor leg injuries and was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. He’s then expected to be transferred to the Juvenile Detention Center in West Valley City.

Investigators says it’s unclear if Friday’s robbery is connected to two previous 7-Eleven robberies in the Salt Lake Valley earlier this week.
