DELTA, Utah, June 6, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The U.S. Bureau of Land Management is holding a wild horse and burro adoption sale Friday in Delta.

“Wild horses and burros are known for their sure-footedness, strength, intelligence and endurance,” according to the BLM. “With kindness and patience, these animals can be trained for many uses.”

And they are very affordable, with a $125 adoption fee.

The adoption of the animals into private care is a management tool to prevent overpopulation of the sturdy beasts on BLM rangelands, the agency explains.

The sale is set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the BLM’s Delta Wild Horse and Burro Facility, 600 N. 400 West, Delta.

Approximately 150 horses and 30 burros will be available for adoption. The BLM offers up to $1,000 in incentives 60 days after purchase. For more information, visit the BLM adoption website.

“Wild, free-roaming wild horses can be found on public lands across 10 western states,” said the BLM.

“Wild burros roam rangeland in California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah and Oregon.”

Pursuant to the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act, the BLM and U.S. Forest Service manage the animals on subsets of public lands where they were found upon passage of the act in 1971, the agency said. These areas are known as Herd Management Areas.
