Boat, trailer fire followed by geyser creates spectacle in West Jordan neighborhood

WEST JORDAN, Utah, Aug. 20, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Residents of a West Jordan neighborhood saw quite a spectacle Sunday night, first in the form of a raging boat and trailer fire, followed by a broken water line which sent thousands of gallons of water shooting into the air.

The neighborhood show began about 7:55 p.m. with fire crews being dispatched to 1370 W 7169 South where a boat and trailer were burning next to a private home.

Firefighters quickly doused the flames, saving the residence from serious damage, although the boat and trailer were destroyed.

Minutes later, while firefighters were still on scene, a water line near a hydrant used to fight the fire suddenly ruptured, sending water spraying 75 feet in the air.

The water department was called in and shut off the water main after about 30 minutes.

There was some minor front yard flooding, but no reported damages.

Meanwhile, arson investigators have been called into try and determine the cause of the boat and trailer fire.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
