SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 24, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — The body of a missing kayaker was recovered from Echo Reservoir overnight, about eight hours after he was reported missing.
“The call came from the man’s adult son, who stated he had last seen his father on the water around 4:30 that afternoon,” says a statement issued by the Summit County Sheriff‘s Office. The call came to dispatch shortly before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
“Search and Rescue teams from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office were immediately deployed and began search efforts with assistance from the Department of Natural Resources law enforcement and Wasatch County Search and Rescue.
Crews used various sonar technologies to search the reservoir. The operation continued into the early morning hours of Wednesday, Sept. 24.
“At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 24, the body of the missing man was located and recovered from the reservoir.”
The victim has been identified as a 56-year-old male resident of Salt Lake County.
“This remains an active investigation,” the Summit County Sheriff’s statement says. “The Utah Office of the Medical Examiner will ultimately determine the official cause and manner of death.
“The Summit County Sheriff’s Office extends our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the victim, and to all those affected by this tragic incident. We also extend our thanks to Wasatch County Search and Rescue, the Department of Natural Resources law enforcement, North Summit Fire District, and all other partner agencies who assisted in the search and recovery effort.”
