MOUNT PLEASANT, Utah, Oct. 25, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Mount Pleasant man was found dead, buried in a shallow grave, near the southern border of Utah County.

The death of Wesley Dee Nay, 22, is being investigated as a homicide. Nay, who was reported missing on Sept. 18, had to be identified by dental records.

“The body had been burned while in the grave,” Sgt. Spencer Cannon, Utah County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, confirmed first to Gephardt Daily. “That’s part of what is making determining the cause of death difficult.”

The body was found by hunters on Oct. 20. Nay’s remains were found in what appeared to be a partially dug grave, under a thin layer of dirt.

Crime scene technicians prepared the body for transport to Salt Lake City for an autopsy. Due to the poor condition of the body, investigators have not yet been able to determine a cause of death.

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Mount Pleasant Police Department and the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Utah County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division at 801-851-4010 or to email Lt. Erik Knutzen at [email protected].
