FARR WEST, Utah, July 31, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Box Elder County man was killed Tuesday afternoon when the car he was driving was involved in a crash with a semi truck in Farr West.
The crash occurred at about 3:30 p.m. in the area of 3700 North and 2000 West, according to a news release from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.
Responding deputies found that a construction semi and two other vehicles were involved in the collision.
The initial investigation indicated that the semi was southbound on 2000 West, when it drifted into the northbound lane near 3700 North, the news release states.
Heading into oncoming traffic, the semi struck a white passenger carĀ occupied by a 71-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman. Both were transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.
The out-of-control semi then crashed into a brown sedan driven by a 33-year-old man from Box Elder County. He was the car’s only occupant, the release says.
That impact forced the semi and the sedan off the road, with the semi pinning the car against a large metal fence.
The driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators believe the semi was traveling at the posted 55-mph speed limit; however, the investigation is still underway. It has not yet been determined whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
The name of the deceased man has not been released pending notification of family members.
