TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, July 26, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police are on the scene of an auto-pedestrian crash involving two girls, ages 15 and 16, Tuesday night.

Unified Police Det. Ken Hansen said the accident occurred at approximately 9:20 p.m. when a car going eastbound on 1365 West at 4800 South hit two girls in a crosswalk.

Hansen said the 15-year-old is in critical condition and the 16-year-old is in serious condition; both have been transported to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.

“We do have witnesses to this particular crash, we’re in the process of interviewing our witnesses and we’ll be doing some testing on the driver,” Hansen said. “Everyone is co-operating.”

An accident reconstruction team is at the scene working to determine the speed of the vehicle. The speed limit in the area is 35 mph.

“This is an well-marked crosswalk and there would still be a perhaps little bit of daylight, but it’s fairly dark,” Hansen said. “On a crash like this we always look at the potential for an impaired driver, we’ll be doing that tonight, and we’ll be testing the driver to see if there’s any impairment whatsoever.

“Our biggest concern right now is for the two girls, that are in the hospital.”

Hansen said the car contained a female driver estimated to be in her late 20s, a male and two children in the backseat. There were no injuries to the occupants of the car, though the driver’s side windshield was smashed when one of the pedestrians hit it.

Gephardt Daily will have more information on this developing story as information becomes available.
