ST. GEORGE, Utah, Jan. 2, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Former Utah state legislator Chad Bennion, who went missing this weekend after heading out on a night run near a family member’s home in St. George, has been found alive.
According to St. George police officials, Bennion got lost and his SUV became stuck. He remained with his vehicle until a hunter saw him, who helped him free his SUV and pointed him in the right direction.
The St. George Police Department released the following statement on Facebook Monday morning:
“Chad Bennion was located today and is now home safe with his family. Mr. Bennion went out for a trail run in a remote area on 12/31/2016 and as he was returning home his vehicle got stuck. He did not have cell service to call for help. He heard through the radio that there was an active search for him so he chose to stay with his vehicle in the hopes that he would be located. He did have supplies and food in case of emergency. He was located today by a citizen passing through the area who helped get his vehicle free and he was able to return home. We would like to thank all the volunteers with the Washington County Search and Rescue and to everyone who helped locate and bring Mr. Bennion home safe.”
The 52-year-old Bennion, of Murray, is also a former Salt Lake County Republican Party Chairman.
