WILLARD, Utah, Oct. 8, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Willard City police responded to Willard Elementary School Wednesday after a package was opened and “suspicious material” was found inside.

“Willard Elementary received an expected package today,” says a school statement reportedly sent to parents. “Upon opening the package, it was observed that a suspicious material was included.

“Students were contained in classrooms for safety,” the statement says. “Dismissal may be interrupted while HAZMAT determines the best route to ensure safe dismissal and release of students.”

In late afternoon, students were later allowed to leave the school. HAZMAT officials remained on the scene to continue the investigation.

A social media post from the Box Elder School District clarified that the package, which contained bookmarks, was expected, but additional materials in the container were deemed suspicious.

Gephardt Daily will have more information as it is available.
