SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah June 6, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — UDOT and the UHP are warning motorists away from a section of highway closed due to road buckling Wednesday night.
The closure is expected to extend into Thursday.
“The ramp from northbound I-15 to westbound/eastbound I-215 is CLOSED due to road buckling,” the Utah Department of Transportation announced online just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. “Please use an alternate route and avoid the area !”
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden said the damage is believed heat-caused, with the roadway cracking in an upward thrust across all lanes of traffic in the affected area.
“It will take through the night, at the least, to repair it,” Roden said.
The closure involves a stretch of road several miles in length, he said. So far no incidents or damage to vehicles have been reported. “We got it closed down about 7 p.m. before there were any issues.”
