SANPETE COUNTY, Utah, March 30, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — An 18-year-old woman died early Tuesday morning after the pickup truck she was driving collided with a semi truck in Sanpete County.
Utah Highway Patrol said in a news release the pickup truck was traveling north on SR-89 near milepost 235 at 1:55 a.m.
“A semi truck with two trailers was traveling south in the same area,” the UHP statement said. “The pickup truck crossed over the center line and hit the semi truck just below the driver’s door. The impact caused major damage to the pickup.”
The driver of the pickup, Kaij B. Ronan, from Centerfield, was deceased on scene. She was the only occupant of the pickup.
The semi driver was taken to the hospital with no apparent injuries.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation but UHP said the fact that it was raining hard at the time may have been a contributing factor.
A CrowdRise account has been set up to benefit Ronan’s family. The home page of the account said: “Our beloved Kaij has passed away. We are trying to raise money for her family… She was a beautiful, caring and unique girl.”
