LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah, Aug. 29, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Two groups of climbers were shot at in Little Cottonwood Canyon on Monday evening, and police are investigating.
According to the Unified Police Department, the incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m.
“The UPD Canyon Patrol received several calls from rock climbers who stated someone was
shooting at them from the north,” UPD spokesman Lt. Brian Lohrke said in a news release. “The climbers were able to hear the bullets passing them and impacting the rock in their immediate area. Canyon Patrol officers immediately responded and escorted all the hikers to safety.”
There were no injuries to the rock climbers.
One witness stated a green passenger car with approximately three occupants could have been involved. The vehicle left the canyon before officers arrived. When officers searched the area, they were able to find several expended bullet casings in the area of 5267 E. Little Cottonwood Rd; almost directly across the canyon from where one group was climbing.
The UPD is asking for the public’s help in reporting any suspicious activity that
may have been seen or heard in Little Cottonwood Canyon on Monday night.
