BONNEVILLE COUNTY, Idaho, Jan. 27, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Family members have confirmed the death of a Layton man, the victim of an Idaho avalanche late Friday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Tommy Hawkins.

According to a news release from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, Hawkins and three others were riding snowmobiles near Upper Palisades Lake about 6 p.m. when the avalanche took place.

All three riders were buried, but two were able to get out on their own.

Hawkins had deployed an avalanche bag and a beacon which allowed the other riders to find him. They attempted CPR, but Hawkins did not survive.

Dangerous conditions at the avalanche site forced search teams to wait until Saturday morning before they could retrieve Hawkin’s body, according to the news release.

Hawkins is survived by his wife and 3 children. A GoFundMe account has been established in the family’s name.
