Provo man sentenced to 60 days in jail after alleged abuse of young girl

PROVO, Utah, Jan. 27, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 22-year-old Provo man was sentenced to 60 days in jail and 24 months of probation for allegedly sexually assaulting a 4- or 5-year-old girl.

According to court documents, Benjamin Clawson admitted to assaulting a girl, his neighbor, at least three times between February of 2011 and January of 2014, in Provo.

The incidents began when the girl was 4 or 5, the court documents said, and Clawson was around the age of 14.

Clawson was convicted of three counts of class A misdemeanor sexual battery and given a suspended sentence of one year in jail for each count. On Jan. 17, he was sentenced to 60 days in jail starting Saturday.

He was placed on two years probation and ordered to pay a fine of $889. He was also ordered to complete a psychosexual evaluation within 60 days of release, as well as completing his GED or high school diploma.

An additional fine of $7,500 was suspended.

  1. Who was the judge?? And why wasn’t he ordered to register as a sex offender? Also … who gets the fine he was ordered to pay? The victim? NO!! The GOVERNMENT! This needs to CHANGE!!
