ST. GEORGE, Utah, Aug. 21, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A wayward rooster what was “was hangin’ with the locals” outside the Silver Reef Brewery has been moved again by St. George Police.

“Meet Brewski the Rooskie,” the SGPD said in a playful post on social media.

“Recently he somehow made his way to Silver Reef Brewery where he was hangin’ with the locals, maybe blown in during a storm.

“Problem is, Brewski (and all other roosters) are only allowed in some areas, depending on zoning, and those areas must have at least an acre. Most areas in St. George aren’t allowed to have roosters.”

Brewski’s new, very temporary home is the St. George Animal Shelter.

“If a rooster finds himself at the shelter, he will be relocated to an appropriate area outside city limits, such as a farm, ranch, etc.,” the SGPD statement says.

The police say if someone sees or hears a bothersome rooster, they can “contact Animal Services and they will address the situation with the owner. If they are not allowed to have it where they live, they will be asked to rehome it.

“The SGAS does not take them, it is the owner’s responsibility to find a place for it to go. If a rooster finds himself at the shelter, he will be relocated to an appropriate area outside city limits, such as a farm, ranch, etc.

“We realize that often people get chicks and don’t know until they are much older if they ended up with a rooster with their hens. St. George Animal Shelter employees will work with people and give them time to rehome the rooster. But you can receive a citation if the situation isn’t resolved. So again, please reach out with any questions!! 435-627-4350.”
