WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, August 5, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Four adults and four children were displaced Monday night after a large shed caught on fire and the flames spread to their home.

West Valley City Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff Fox said the fire originated in the shed, which was fully involved.

“The flames extended to a covered patio and then to the house,” Fox told Gephardt Daily. “There was a lot of damage, and a lot of smoke damage inside the house.”

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

The Red Cross was called to assist the residents with necessary accommodations.

Fox said the call reporting the fire came in at 6:25 p.m., and because the fire station is not far from the home, on the 4300 block of Finair Street, crews arrived within about three minutes. He said the fire was under control in about 15 minutes and was extinguished in about half an hour.

He estimated damages at $200,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
