Fire Engulfs Draper Home Leaving a Family of Five Homeless

imageDRAPER, UTAH – April 17, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Fire broke out in a Draper home tonight. Just before 8 p.m., firefighters were called to 1777 Crimson Oak Drive in Draper. According to Unified Fire Authority Captain, Dan Brown, said the garage was fully engulfed in flames and the fire had started spreading to the house as crews arrived.

Neighbors like T.J. Peterson, who were first to arrive on scene said, that he and his friends were driving towards the house and saw black smoke; “We thought it was one of the cars that started on fire,” he said.

When they pulled up they noticed the garage was actually on fire. His friends went in and “…made sure that all the kids got out safely”, while Peterson had to try and stop the mother from running back inside to save the families belongings.

It appears that the fire started in the garage and firefighters got there just as the fire was spreading into the house. When they arrived, they called for a second alarm to ensure the flames would not spread to neighboring homes said Brown.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, though neighbors say that the possible cause was from wood chips that were used during a BBQ and then tossed in a trash can which was located in the garage. The Captain could not confirm that as of right now.
