HURRICANE, Utah, Nov. 21, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A former inmate at Purgatory Correctional Facility was arrested Tuesday after deputies noticed several items missing from a storage area at the jail.
In a news release, Deputy Graham Hancock, public information officer for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, said deputies were conducting a check of the facility grounds Tuesday when they discovered that a kayak and other items used by Washington County Search and Rescue weren’t where they were supposed to be.
The deputies followed drag marks from where the kayaks are stored to an area outside the Purgatory grounds. That’s where they found a man sitting in the missing kayak, along with the other missing items, the release states.
The man was identified as Daniel Blake Willey, who had been released from the facility earlier in November.
Willey was arrested and booked into Purgatory Correctional Facility on a charge of misdemeanor theft.
