Utah Man, 3 Others, Die In Idaho Plane Crash

IdahoCHALLIS, IDAHO – April 12 – (Gephardt Daily) Four people including a Park City, Utah man, have died after the small plane they were in crashed Friday afternoon near Challis, Idaho.

According to the Custer County Sheriff’s office, the crash happened near the Loon Creek drainage, just above the Diamond-D Ranch in north central Idaho. The Ranch caretakers found the crash site near the north end of the Loon Creek air strip.

The Sheriff’s office explained that the plane crashed then caught on fire and the fuselage burned away. The only thing that was left was the tail end and the wings.

All four bodies have been recovered.

The plane that crashed was a Cessna T210M, and owned by John H. Short, 70. Short was from Park City, Utah. The other three victims were identified as Andrew D. Tyson, 46, from Teton County, Idaho; Russell T. “Rusty” Cheney, 34, from Teton County, Idaho; and Aaron J. “A.J.” Linnell, 39, from Teton County, Idaho.

The remains of the victims were identified by friends and family at the Challis airport. The cause of the crash isn’t known. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
