SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 24, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah Gov. Spencer Cox praised the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s decision to name Salt Lake City one of five new regional hubs, part of a major USDA reorganization announced Wednesday in Washington, D.C.

“Thank you to @SecRollins for choosing Utah as a new @USDA hub,” Cox posted on social media. “This move brings the Department closer to the people it serves and strengthens its core mission. Utah is proud to partner in advancing American agriculture and rural prosperity.”

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke L. Rollins claims the restructuring is aimed at cutting costs, reducing bureaucracy, and relocating services closer to rural communities. Salt Lake City joins Raleigh, Kansas City, Indianapolis, and Fort Collins as USDA’s new regional centers.

The USDA will reduce its D.C.-area workforce from 4,600 to under 2,000 and vacate several outdated federal buildings. Rollins cited years of overspending, deferred maintenance, and a need to realign with the Department’s original mission.

“This move ensures USDA better serves the farmers, ranchers, and producers who feed and fuel America,” Rollins said.

The reorganization includes voluntary workforce reductions and preserves critical safety and food inspection roles. Notifications about relocations will begin in the coming weeks.
