MOAB, Utah, June 30, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Grand County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an overdue plane late Sunday afternoon.

The aircraft, with two people on board, left Moab at about 8 a.m. and was due back by noon. The sheriff’s office dispatch center received word at 4:41 p.m. that the plane had not yet returned.

Volunteers in private planes searched until dark, and the Department of Public Safety will continue searching by helicopter Sunday night and again Monday morning.

The Grand County Sheriff’s Office is coordinating with the DPS and the Civil Air Patrol in organizing the search.

They caution that air restrictions may be imposed.

The GCSO is asking any private pilot who has a plane and wants to participate to call the sheriff’s office at 435-259-8115 to be included in any additional search area assignments as they are needed. This will help make the search safer and more efficient.

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more information becomes available.
