ROY, Utah, March 7, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Ogden City police said Saturday that a handgun believed to be tied to a Las Vegas double homicide was recovered after an arrest in Roy.
“The handgun investigators were seeking has been located and recovered as of today,” and OCPD statement says.
“A citizen in Roy contacted dispatch after locating the firearm, and the Roy Police Department responded and safely recovered it.”
The multi-state incident began Monday night in Las Vegas when an officer making a traffic stop heard gunfire from nearby, according to reports from Nevada media outlets including KSNV. A woman and toddler were found nearby, and died from gunshot wounds.
Las Vegas police officers were not able to stop the suspect, but did get an image of the car he was in, and its license plate.
Ogden City police became involved when an automated licence plate reader detected the suspect’s plate Tuesday in Ogden at about 4 p.m. Utah law enforcement agents from Ogden an multiple other agencies pursued the man in the car, later identified as 22-year-old Ziaire Jacob Ham.
Ham was booked into the Weber County jail for investigation of:
- Receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, a second-degree felony
- Failure to respond to an officer’s signal to stop, a third-degree felony
- Reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor
Nevada charges are pending.
“We appreciate the vigilance of the community member who called it in and thank the Roy Police Department for their teamwork and assistance in bringing this portion of the investigation to a safe resolution,” the OCPD statement says.
